Book Recommendations

October 31, 2007 at 11:40 am (Books, Leading Worship, Ministry, Questions, Worship, Worship Resources) (, , , , )

So, this is a question for all those out there, mainly in worship arts, but anyone who can offer suggestions! :)

I’m trying to expand my resources & knowledge on worship, particularly relating to leading worship & working with worship teams, choirs, musicians, & so forth. Would any of you care to suggest some must-haves for my bookshelf, good resources, good reads in general on such topics…??

(Don’t be afraid to suggest the obvious ones even if you think I already know about them or have read them–it’s good to see others’ confirmation of must-have books as well!)

I’ll soon enter a new chapter of God’s will for my life, & I’m looking to do my part in some of the preparation as well, but want to spend wisely when it comes to books & other resources with the small salary I currently make!

Also, if anyone wants to review books (or a few books at a time with even just a sentence or two about each!) feel free to contact Mandy or I so that we can share this with the other women in worship here.

Thank you all tremendously!

Your Input!!

October 22, 2007 at 1:04 am (WIW Info)

Hi, all,

We’re wondering if any of you would like to help contribute to the Women in Worship blog! We’ve got some ideas of things we’d like to hear about from all of you members of WIW, & also would love to have those of you who would like to submit introductory posts as well similar to what Mandy & I already have done.

First, we want to ask that you’d contact us with your interest in posting to the weblog, & also on the topic (or intro if just to introduce yourself) you’d like to post on. We can then get you up & running with the ability to submit blog posts to WIW for review prior to posting & then after we review them, place them in the proper categories, etc., we will publish them to the WIW blog!

Here are things we’re looking for (thank you to Jan for sharing some of these with us as well):

One of our blog friends, Alex Mclean, has this VERY interesting discussion going on his blog.

Go check it out… I hope you’ll be encouraged.

Leading Worship – Vocally & Instrumentally

October 11, 2007 at 6:27 pm (Leading Worship, Ministry, Questions, Tips & Advice, Women in Worship, Worship) (, , , , , , , , , , , , , , )

This is a post requiring responses from those women worship leaders out there! :)

When leading worship services, do you lead in vocals only (with others covering the instruments), by playing guitar, piano, a combination of any of these, or something else entirely?

who are we? mandy

October 4, 2007 at 1:00 pm (Members, WIW Info, Women in Worship)

i’ve been a part of leading worship for ten years in a variety of venues – everything from traditional southern baptist to non-denominational to large youth rallies! in the past few years i’ve had a number of amazing mentors in the area of leading worship, and one was a tried and true female leader. her knowledge, insight, and experience pushed me forward in SO many ways. through her, i was also exposed to a number of other influential male leaders in our community who were powerful worship leaders.

i am currently leading worship in a small baptist church in New England. i am growing to respect and value Robert Webber’s approach, which he coined “Blended Worship.” i think the Church, the Bride of Christ, can truly find her voice in a method of worship that does not retire the old hymns of our heritage, nor dismiss the new and innovative praise and worship songs of this generation.

i like the beach, and i love music… i pass the time by writing and recording original music. my songs are sort of like my diary… if you wanna know what’s been on my mind lately, ask me what i’m writing!

my favorite book: Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers

favorite website: icanhascheezburger.com

favorite musician: nichole nordeman
